Delusional greed in the financial sector

At a previous position, I worked with a major financial company. Insurance, investing, retirement and what not. And while attending a meeting with the business ‘customers’ of the ID department. I was nearly physically sickened by their use of the terminology ‘manufacturing a new product’. This is a financial institute, not a manufacture of real products. So when they created a product they meant a paper house contract. The sickening part was how they declare how much money the company would make from the future ‘customers’ of the product. Not that the ‘customer’ wouldn’t have earned some modest income from the ‘product’, it was just that the vast majority of any profits would go to the company, with the customer taking all of the risks. More over, the ‘creator’ of this new product would be richly rewarded in advance of any company profits from the product hence creating a motivation to ‘create’ more of these types of ‘products’. Greed, promoting Delusions that reward more greed. This is true nature of the financial issues we face and any congressman claiming market forces will fix the problems is blind AND stupid and otherwise, just a fool, and should be removed from office.

If men were angels, no government would be necessary.
James Madison

So a Free market we cannot afford. We must have government to control the Raw Greed on Wallstreet!

A sheep in Wolfs (Windows) dressings

If I were managing Microsoft, I’d announce a new Operating System (OS) and prepare copies to hand out of Windows 7 “pre-betas” at PDC, WinHEC which consists of a slightly re-skinned Vista OS which no one wanted when it was called Vista.

And you know, no one will notice, or care that 99.9% of of the new OS is just the same as the old OS and relabeling it will make all the difference in the world!

Apple Slaps down developers again

Every day I’m more and more impressed with my Palm T/X choice as Apple extends iPhone NDA. Apple is getting genuinely proprietary about their iPhone/iPod app store. They are making a mockery of their own developer community and that won’t last, seeing as there is now the Google G1 Android phone and it’s open source development roots.

UPDATE:

Microsoft on the ropes

This article Microsoft unveils $40bn buy-back it becomes evident how poorly Microsoft is doing in the market place as the process of a Buy Back which I quote:

Companies will buyback shares either to increase the value of shares still available (reducing supply), or to eliminate any threats by shareholders who may be looking for a controlling stake.

I believe that this attempt to get the stock price up points not to one of the above reasons, but to both the reasons. Microsoft stock is low, and falling, and many mainline fortune 500 companies like Insurance companys, mutual funds and retirement systems have large investments in Microsoft. There may be an uprising, or worse a sellout by these companies if the stock price does not rise. Microsoft is on the ropes, mostly Steve Ballmer is on the ropes. If he can’t get the stock to rise, he will be gone before the year is out.

Defeat McCain with the Truth

While the mud slinging and lies are flying from the GOP, the Obama campaign I’m sure are trying to find a strategy that will nullify the muck flowing from McCain and Palin. This West Wing Clip, while addressing a religious nut job from a talk show, ends with a quote, ‘That is how I will defeat him {my presidential opponent}” and while it’s subtle, it speaks one thing, Obama should defeat McCain and Palin with the truth, with the facts, with honesty, in other words, with everything they are not!.

Dell to Close Limerick Plant

Dell has discovered a clever way to close it’s Limerick as Dell plans to sell plants worldwide. The limerick Plant has been known for some time to be less profitable than those in the far east and eastern Europe. When it comes to purchasing the Limerick plant there will be no takers and it will have to close. Dell wins, as it will not have to give up it’s corporate tax breaks, and doesn’t look like the villain.

Sarah Palin – The Barracuda

Someone from the States just email me this link, and it makes for interesting reading. Calling Sarah Palin the Barracuda may be only the start of the story. This woman is down right dangerous, not to the Democrats, but the Republicans, as she represents all the worst traits that Republicans have been demonstrating over the last 8 years in the Whitehouse.
