What is Waterford Crystal without Waterford?

I have watched the management of Waterford Crystal over the past few years, and have been amazed at how clueless they are about their product. Like most bean counters, they have sought to reduce expenses by pushing production into Eastern Europe and any other place where they could drop the cost of production. They must be insane! It’s the only conclusion that makes sense. They have been behaving as if their product is a commodity item like an automobile, or a toaster.

Waterford Cystal and Wedgewood ARE the labors and works of Waterford Ireland and Wedgewood England! Anything else is a fake, even with a waterford/wedgewood label on it, they are FAKES! Waterford Crystal is a luxury item that speaks to Quality not quantity. It means workmanship that a slow and skilled workforce imparts on each and every cut of the crystal. If you want bulk fakes, go to China!

The marketing of Waterford should be on the Apple model, special, and elegant, Not like Microsoft where ‘good enough’ and high volume turnover is the measure.

Now that the bean counters have closed Waterford, THERE IS NO WATERFORD accept no substitutes!

Windows 7 bait and switch

A few years ago there was a declaration that due to continuing delays with Vista, that Microsoft would ‘totally rewrite’ the code to complete the task and finalize it’s release. We now know that these ‘rewrites’ never made it into the Vista we see today, and are now part of the Windows 7 kit. We know this by common sense, we know that Microsoft could never have reached a Windows 7 beta in under a year when in fact it’s taken about 4 years to develop this beta.

Now all the paid Windows Pundits are raving about the Windows 7 beta and how much better, secure and fast this is, to any other Windows release. Almost the exact same song and dance that was paraded out for Vista. Does anyone ever learn that marketing does not make software better? I’m sure that Microsoft is aware that if they get this wrong again, corporate 500 companies, same ones that are skipping the Vista release, the ones that keep them in business, will be seeking more alternative desktop operating systems. They have already been tripped up by the emergence of the netbook running Linux, or worse, Windows XP. They are literally being hamstrung by their own base. This could be the end of Microsoft dominance in the office workspace.

Palm Treo Pro Delayed, to be loaded with WebOS?

Everyone is talking up the fact that the Palm Pro has been delayed. When first announced I decried that fact as One more foolish Palm move because it was being created as a Windows 6 device. Claiming that it was diluting a potential ‘Nova’ OS, now Known as WebOS, that was imminent. It should always have been loaded with WebOS, and now maybe it could be. This delay could be the perfect wave for Palm, a touch based Pre , and a non touch version, the Pro, of WebOS.

Obama’s First day according to Fox?

Hitler to Obama

From a historical perspective, what would have happened to the world if Hitler had been voted out of office before the start of World War Two? Most people don’t remember that Hitler WAS elected, maybe from a corrupt election process, but he was elected. So what if he lost an election? What would it be like to replace Hitler, and his policies. How much work would he/she have to do to repair the damages?

Somehow that’s what I think Obama has before him. A monumental task of restoring Truth, Justice and the American Way to the United States.

Internet to shutdown to help environment.

In this article Revealed: the environmental impact of Google searches the Times On-Line quotes from an energy researcher who has no access to Google energy data to state “A Google search has a definite environmental impact.” Much like posting his article online. Perhaps he should reflect on the old adage Without Reliable Data, I’m Just another A__Ho_e with an Opinion!

Palm WebOS for the T/X

I may be a bit wishful after seeing the demonstration of the Palm Pre but knowing that you can get Angstrom Linux on the Palm T/X, there isn’t any reason that you couldn’t get the Palm WebOS shoehorned into it. But I’m assuming that CPU power and memory will be issues. Still one can be hopeful that since the Linux Kernels are nearly the same version, the WebOS environment is the only portion that needs to be ported. It might be a bit sluggish, but the Angstrom installation has built-in over-clocking of the T/X processor so that hurtle could be overcome.

Dell Blackout on Factory Closings

It looks like Dell is attempting to suppress all information as they slap blackout on news about Raheen factory closings. That could be good news, or not. It could be a sign that they are negotiating a deal with the Irish Government. It could also be very bad news, and they are holding off until they can extract all the executive ‘hostages’, just in case 😉

UPDATE: Dell ceases all production at limerick

UPDATE_2: Looks like a dirty deal in Poland motivated the move Probe into €50m sweetener behind Dell move

The Real, root of all evil.

I’ve been just watching The Root of All Evil on RTE, of all places, I’m surprised that the Catholic Church allow them to broadcast it.

I more or less believe this to be the case for years, there is Reason and then there is Religion, Good verses Evil. Christian Fundamentalists, Islamic Jihadist’s and any other religious belief system taken to an extreme is evil. Plain and simple, lesser measures of religion are merely irrational.

You can have morals without religion, you can have the rule of the laws of man without religion.

The Guise of truth

Israel lost the last war with Hezbollah and I Blogged about it here when I wrote that Israel loses the War on Terror and it looks like the Israeli government has learned to change their propaganda to alter perceptions but are we trusting what we see?. Can we recognize a YouTube campaign when we see one? Not likely, but what is worse is that this ‘war’ may be more about upcoming elections in Israel than anything Hamas has been doing.

UPDATE:

Kinda says it all!
