  1. I spent 17 years in Dublin from college onwards, having grown up in Meath and Kilkenny. For a lot of that time it was fun, interesting and exciting. We spent the final three years trying to get the hell out. We moved to Cork three years ago for work reasons and unless absolutely forced to, we’re never going back to Dublin. Lower quality and higher cost of life.

It’s nice to visit to remind ourselves of how good we have it here.

If you do end up going, have a look at Greystones, Wicklow etc as a place to live. That’s where we were targetting before the Cork move.

But my advice is to do everything you can to stay down here – it is a far far better place to live and enjoy life.

  2. Thanks, I know Dublin is a risk, this job is in Dublin 12 so it’s in the fringe of Smoke. And I can stay as far out of the city as I can manage.

  3. Ah D12, where we lived for nearly 10 years. It is actually a good spot to live if you can get the right balance between value and location dodginess.

We lived near KCR which was fine but has gone pricey. Nearer Sundrive/Harold’s Cross has gone crazy money but down in Crumlin and Drimnagh, there is still some value to be had. It sure beats some faceless estate in Kildare. When the crash comes, I think property closer to town will suffer less.

The main disadvantage from a work perspective is that it is hard to get in and out of if you are commuting from further out.

Unless you are an dawn starter like myself!

  4. Thanks this has been useful, the real goal is to stay in Cork, and just have an apartment there to work out of for the week. The property market is too risky to buy up there.
