WMD’s boogy man, out of control.

I have always been amazed at the attitude of the the NeoCon far right wing in the United States. When Europe suggests a course of action like the Ceasefire in lebanon, most take it just on face value, a suggestion. When the NeoCon’s make a suggestion they expect immediate action in compliance to that suggestion. And when that suggestion is not heeded, great anger, and self righteous indignation follows. We are a SUPERPOWER we should be listened to and heeded. This is the voice of Olympus speaking.

It’s no wonder that with a belief in their own Godhood that their religions beliefs are also in a God who they believe grants them a divine destiny to lead the world. Unfortunately the god that they worship, is a self deluded composite deity designed by them. They have, like buggy software, designed in many loopholes and insecurities. Personal insecurities. When confronted with reality they resort to sound bites and rhetoric long since debunked. A powerpoint presentation that has lost its point, like blue screens full of cryptic error messages. Just like the cryptic messages from the Oracle, most religions are a mishmash of interpretation by clerics of all religious automatons. The NeoCon beliefs are no different, if there is no Boogy Man, you must create one.

For the fall elections in the U.S. we will see if the presentation of the GOP and it’s far right will get it’s tired story rewritten or not. It is not a good sign when the constant reiteration of Weapons of Mass Destruction that often defines the Right has continued to sink in with the voting public and more and more of the mindless in America still believe that WMD’s still exist, and are in the hands of the Hezbollah. How many times can a single item be used? How many times can crying wolf illicit a response before the people stop listening, and ask for the truth.

It’s truly amazing how much the beliefs of the GOP mirror that of another previously overturned regime.

“What luck for the rulers that men do not think”

“If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed”

Adolf Hitler

Election Terrorism

Funny how an Election year where the GOP, Lie and Die party are in trouble, manages to bring out the terrorist in the U.S.

US foils ‘New York tunnel plot’

And even funnier how all that so called illegal surveillance at AT&T is now justified.

The alleged plot was discovered during routine monitoring of internet chatrooms used by extremist groups.

What’s the Terrorist alert level now? Double Orange, or super duper Red?

What will be really scary is that when the polling numbers for the Republicans continues to drop, that “Suspension of the election will be instituted to Protect the Public” will become a real option for the GOP.

Religious Control, an exercise in secular power

Not that I didn’t know this before, but if there is Death for Somali Muslims who shirk prayers they must not believe in Islam, or they would not need to enforce prayers. Aren’t we glad that George Bush and his Christian fundamentalists do not incorporate this into the U.S. constitution. Oh, wait that’s why they want Intelligent Design and prayers back into schools. But in reality, prayers of this type are just a secular demonstration of power. Not unlike what kings expected from their followers, a belief that some men are gods. After all, if you control their lives and their death, you are gods. Islamic and Christian clerics alike relish this power on earth. All religion is more or less a power trip to the practitioner. Why should anyone be surprised when religious law is the law of the land, it only substitutes one form of secular control with another.

Don’t you think god could enforce their own religious laws? Why would a cleric need to? Power!

Must be a really weak god.

Scholarly lost logic on Hamdan case

Sometimes when you read a long and detailed train of thought from a Scholarly writer often the pure dazzle of the dialog can conceal elements that on first pass seem reasonable. Let me illustrate, this example attempts to defend the creation of a special class of ‘detainees’ as in the case in Guantanamo.

The law should permit the targeting of individuals who are actively engaged in terrorist planning and actions, so long as it is highly likely that the target is an actual terrorist, that the number of likely civilian deaths is proportional to the likely civilian deaths that would have been caused by the targeted terrorists, and that there is no other alternative – such as arrest – that is feasible under the circumstances.

Lost in the equation of U.S. law are elements like, “innocent until proven Guilty” and the right “to face their accusers”. More fundamental is the lack of a vital element, ‘Subject Identification’, ‘Quality and source of Intelligence’, ‘qualification of identified terrorist target.’ and more important “Who is doing the definition and interpretation of the targeted terrorist. “. These are know as ‘Evidence’ and a trial by jury based upon evidence and the rule of law.

And while the “anachronistic laws” that this article seeks to repeal are mentioned, not once is it described why such laws exist in the first place. The laws that this professor Dershowitz would have you repeal are the ones that were put in place to prevent the burning of witches at the stake. They were to qualify the identification of witches and hence terrorists as well. The reduction of anyone to be identified into special classes goes to the heart of U.S. law.

The author goes on;

Anne Fitzgerald of Amnesty recently compared the alleged terrorists being detained by the US and its allies to the “disappeared” in Argentina during the Junta. The comparison is obscene. The disappeared in Argentina were mostly political opponents of the Junta, many of whom were tortured to death and dropped into the ocean from aircraft.

But then he does not defend the fact that ‘terrorist’ is an arbitrary label, and in it’s nature IS political! Anyone can be called a terrorist. With no evidence, how is this any different to what the Argentina government did?

And again about terrorist;

They cannot be held as POWs until the end of the war, because this is a war that will never end.

The real question is one he doesn’t ask, is this a real war? Mind you it’s being advertised as one, but other countries have been targets of terrorists before, and have never classified them as wars like the U.S. has. It wasn’t a war when Timothy McVeigh blew-up the federal building in Oklahoma, it was a terrorist act, but not a war. But further he does not mention the POW in relationship with evidence of a crime, or if they really were terrorist, in his own words ” A few wore ersatz uniforms; most did not. Some were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. ” So where is the evidence! This goes to the heart of the supreme court decision on Hamdan, that they cannot be denied a trial!

if Professor Dershowitz is really “America’s leading liberal lawyer” he needs to get his credientials renewed.

Pumping up the Terror Threat.

It has begun, the pumping up of the terror threat just before the fall elections in the U.S. The GOP has no other weapon to combat the bad press about the corruption’s, voting scandals, the illegal wire taps and the lies about the Iraq war. From here till the end of the year, we will be inundated with terrorist threats and fear mongering. The next step will be a bomb, or some shootings, and more apparent links to al-Qaeda. US fears home-grown terror threat will be the theme of the the news when ever the Bush White House is faced with falling Poll numbers, more scandal and threats of investigations.

“WWIII Started in 1979”, paranoia

I can usually usually judge the level of paranoia flowing through the GOP, NeoCons and the far right, from the propaganda email forwarded from my brother in the central United States. These usually follow some talking point or another that the White House would be proud of, but are cloaked in “personalization’s” like ‘joe’ told me, or a “friend of mine” something, to allude to a personal first person truth. Often, as in the last one, titled “WWIII Started in 1979” it resorts to paranoid delusion and vastly over simplified history and the motivations of the depicted (read spun) events. In this case many unrelated events are painted in a ‘pro-war with the Arabs’ fashion using little more commonality than of race. An enemy easily identified as Muslim, those “vicious anti-west, infidel killing religious fanatics”.

You get the picture anyway.

This brings me back to the point, that this represents another attempt to deflect attention from the GOP corruption, lawbreaking and embezzlement of the public trust. and an attempt to elevate paranoia, and create fear of “The ENEMY them, those people, that sleeper cell down the street that behaves strangely.

The real question, do we really question anymore? When do we stop believing in the ‘Bush who cried wolf”. When are we going to require real accountability for improving the security we really desire? When, if ever, are we going believe which “Terror Alerts” are real?

Why would anyone give up their freedoms, liberties and privacy, the very things that have made us great for the illusion of security being offered by the NeoCon GOP. Why would you believe any politician, for that matter.

People must believe in themselves, trust to the good elements of our chosen society, represent them, educate with them, and work to prevent the hate, paranoia and fear from blinding us to the truth that we are all human. And that the rights which we have fought for over the years must be applied to all equally.

Ok I’ll get off the soapbox.

Demonization of the ACLU

I have been reading the blogs of the religiously self-righteous defenders of the U.S constitution. Or, in other words attempting to distorting the definitions of the constitution into religious mumbo-Jumbo. To quote;

The mission of the ACLU is to preserve all of these protections and guarantees:

  • Your First Amendment rights-freedom of speech, association and assembly. Freedom of the press, and freedom of religion supported by the strict separation of church and state.
  • Your right to equal protection under the law – equal treatment regardless of race, sex, religion or national origin.
  • Your right to due process – fair treatment by the government whenever the loss of your liberty or property is at stake.
  • Your right to privacy – freedom from unwarranted government intrusion into your personal and private affairs.

But they seem to be under attack because they are managing to get that job done, but are being attacked by the christian wing-nut far right because they

…work also to extend rights to segments of our population that have traditionally been denied their rights, including Native Americans and other people of color; lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgendered people; women; mental-health patients; prisoners; people with disabilities; and the poor.

In other words everything the fundamentalist are against. and who believe that

if the rights of society’s most vulnerable members are denied

Christianity as NOT embodied in the constitution can be preserved for all Americans.

Outsourcing is dead.

More on Sunday Business Post, The IT outsourcing section is full of articles about how to save money and increase productivity by outsourcing.

What’s wrong with these article? It completely ignores the fact that in may cases outsourcing actually increases cost.

Gartner: Outsourcing costs more than in-house

Outsourcing Myths

GARTNER: OUTSOURCING DEALS BASED ON PRICE ALONE ARE LIKELY DOOMED

And it’s not just Gartner stating this, More and more real life business situations are proving that short term gains are reversed with long term failures and will result with increased expenses. Outsourcing is proving to be an accountant’s favorite trick to improve the short term profit projections at the expense of long term gains, and company stability or as a means to project profitability to enhance the sale of a business.

One more thing, It’s also a consultants trump card.

UPDATE: Cheap labour in India is getting too expensive

A Religious reason is a misnomer

I’ve been reading about What did Canadians do to deserve this? And while the article makes a strong argument that Islamic Terrorist believe things like this.

Sayed Qutb, the Marx of Militant Islamism, stated unequivocally: “Truth and falsehood cannot coexist on earth…the liberating struggle of jihad does not cease until all religion belongs to God.” Looking at the world through such eyes, freedom, tolerance and democratic values are not virtues – they are symptoms of weakness and moral decline.

The author Clifford D. May has ask the some of the hard questions

What were these young men taught by the religious leaders in their mosques? Did their neighbors not see where they were heading? Was it sympathy or fear that prevented them from speaking up? If it was fear – fear of whom?

His belief that the Muslim community has any more control of their radical members than any right wing Christian fundamentalist is misplaced. The problem is this; in a secular democracy where “freedom, tolerance and democratic values” are truly valued, religion is the problem. Religion is the antithesis of common sense, of reason, and truth. If you take any religion to extremes you might as well perform a frontal lobotomy. A person so conditioned is beyond reason.

You can’t reason with someone, who didn’t start out that way.

And the only hope for Democracies, who wish to preserve their “freedom, tolerance and democratic values” is education. Teaching reason, freedom and tolerance. And the first step, is practicing what they preach. To hold themselves up as a model, they should be proud to look in a mirror. In a war of ideologies, insure that your’s is the best.

UPDATE: A christian example: Fox News host to guest: ‘You’re going to hell!’

You have to love the Irony

You have to love the Irony that when you attempt to prevent the distortion of the news by requiring the identification of source of the Advertising and fake news VNC’s, a form of advertising propaganda, That you get the propagandist who is Confronted with Disclosure Demands, Fake News Moguls Cry “Censorship!”.

This all makes sense when Fox news can now distort the news legally as in this case in florida. Where the FCC’s rules on news distortion (read lies here) was ignored

…the reporters accused the station (WTVT-TV, a subsidiary of Fox Television) of attempting to distort the story to favor the manufacturer of BGH…It is undisputed that the FCC’s news distortion policy has never been “adopted” as defined by section 120.54, Florida Statutes…Because the FCC’s news distortion policy is not a “law, rule, or regulation” under section 448.102, … we reverse the judgment in her favor and remand for entry of a judgment in favor of WTVT

This is roughly the same as the cockroach complaining because you turned over the rock he was hiding under.

A real Inconvenient Truth, the earth will survive without us.

There has been a lot of talking about An Inconvenient Truth (the movie) and how it makes sense to start taking action on environmental concerns. The real inconvenient truth it more frightening. The Earth does not need us to survive! Think about that, for more than a minute, if global warming kills off humanity, and many other species, it won’t kill the earth. It will recover and any remaining animal and plant life left will recover and adapt to the new conditions. What climate change will do, is eliminate humans from the equation. So, with that in mind, the real concerns about the climate, aren’t economic, they are no less than the extinction or preservation of Mankind. That, and any other species we choose to allow to survive with us.

Just remember, the Earth doesn’t care if we are here or not. It was here long before us, and it will continue, with or without, us along for the ride.

Iran nuclear bomb ‘in 10 years’

Iran nuclear bomb ‘in 10 years’

I could build a nuclear bomb in 10 years, this is like saying that they haven’t made any progress. But I’ll bet the Bush and company will make this out to be a great threat to ‘Freedom and Liberty’ and I see another axis of evil speech coming.

Any, and I do mean ANY physics student at any university could make a nuclear bomb in less than 10 years. And if you are interested, let me know, and I’ll post you some clear instructions.
