I’ve come to the conclusion that Technorati, Feedster, Google, Altavista and Yahoo provide guaranteed rubbish as far as content search. I recently re-ran some simple searches and they returned absolutely zero useful links. Search for products, and you get a wealth of information.
So a question for the internet, is there a good content search engine?
Most sites could be categorised under either “Business” or “Reference”…and in doing most queries you will know whether your result should be a business or reference site. It could be very possible to have such a filter and that is something I have thought of for our Irish Search Engine, Scrudu. Ideally you could let users do the marking of sites and then build in anti-user-rigging checking. You could try to determine by robot whether it was a reference or business site by the structure or type of content, but that could be quite difficult.
Thanks, I look forward to trying Scrudu when you launch.
While I have thought of doing this for Scrudu – implementing it is something different. That element may be somewhere down the line. In all liklihood our site will be better for commercial results as Google can go deeper into sites which is what is needed for reference material.
