  1. Of course, it doesn’t help when the service is out for days and days and days and then they’ve charged the support line to a premium rate number since the Virgin acquisition.

  3. Isn’t cable bandwidth essentially shared with neighbouring houses so if your neighbours are bittorrenting your bandwidth won’t be 20mb?

Cable and ADSL are all based on contention ratios, I have a 24/1 contention, others might have a 36/1 or 48/1 but the recent, and sudden, degradation of performance appears to be unrelated to contention. The loss of services and complete network dropout looks to point at poor infrastructure, and Eircom.
