I just got the home server running on a dynamic dns server, and sure enough, we are already getting spam comments on the wordpress software I installed there. I knew our server wasn’t going to to go unnoticed when both Google and Yahoo found it Friday. But really, spam?

RTÉ is a State owned and operated propaganda wing of Fianna Fáil! There is no other way to put it. In a free society, only a free and open press and broadcaster can be truly unbiased, anything else is a sham. All funding and support comes from the government, not the ‘Irish People’ truth is the last thing to be published. Bite the hand that feed’s it, you must be joking!
RTE should be cast out in the public domain, where a wealthy broadcast media giant can buy it … broadcast …. print … political propaganda … biased economic news….err….

Not that this is going to be instructive, but about a month ago I thought that separating my technical blogging from my ‘life’ blogging would improve the clarity of my thinking. But it has not, it was a distraction, and a bit schizophrenic, and actually an inhibitor to posting. I can’t really separate my techie from my personal opinions. They are intertwined and interact on more levels than would seem, at first, to be evident. So in that vein, I was required to reintegrate the two blogs.
This looked easy, but since I had included all the posts from my three or four years of blogging, selected from each by their respective ‘slants’. It was not a simple dump and load of the MySQL database in which the content resided. So I downloaded the latest MySQL community server and various tools and recreated databases containing the two dumps from the blog databases and cross seeded them to patch them back together. Simple! Except that the original blog was wordpress 2.6.2 and I had built the second one as 2.7. Guess what, my original MySQL dump that included ALL the compied posts before the split, was a different schema from the the newer dumps. But owing to the fact that I’m a brilliant DBA, it only required two days of backbreaking, mind exercising MySQL learning to solve the issues 😉
Now I’ll never be a WordPress expert, but I actually liked the work. It’s refreshing to learn, that I can learn new things at my age. While I am an excellent Sybase DBA, and now feel very good about knowledge of MySQL also.
They just have to fix this one quibble or two I have with MySQL where it involves ……
In typical American style or Lack there of, the Ultimate Blogger Dinner organizers are traveling to CES09 in what can only be described as a BUTT UGLY Ford Flex SUV. If this is any indication of the class of Bloggers attending, might I suggest that you avoid tarnishing your reputation and decline to attend.
A nearly perfect WordPress distribution was disrupted by a loss of my ‘tags’ which affected the catagories on my blog. A reload of the wp_catagories table and contents, and then this MySQL script managed to put things right.

Now that I am learning about the range and limitations of the browsers on PDA’s, and Wap mobile phone’s and the iPhone/ iPod Touch. I have installed the PDA Plugin for WordPress, and it works, mind you I’ve only utilized on the Palm T/X, so if you are using an iPhone, why don’t you leave me a message to tell me how it looks.

Bush’s friendly co-conspirator in the White House Lies and deception club has come up with something he can really sink his teeth into, The U.S. Propaganda Agency to quote;
…the United States is losing the war of ideas in the Muslim world, and the answer to that, in part, is through the creation of this new government agency
Whatever happened to the truth? If the truth isn’t there, someone will discover that it’s not the truth, and no amount of lying is going to make anyone listen to it. Mind you if you can control all sources of information (MSN, radio, TV, Internet), and either censor or block the truth, what does it matter what you say?
Radio Free Europe has been identified as one of the most useful tool to bring down the Iron curtain, on a simple principal, that even under political pressure, it would ONLY broadcast the truth.
But this administration doesn’t know the truth, to them, the truth is the enemy, and so we have what we have. A world of spin and deception.
My MacBook blogging station
As I’m still stuck in (and blogging from) the hospital this New Years Eve, I will wish that all the rest of the blogging world remains OUT of the hospital this New Years Eve and hope you can remain in that condition throughout this next year. So I’ll wish you a Very Happy (and sensibly drinking) New Year.
I’m home, well at least my bolt hole in Dublin, for Christmas. Having spent the last week in Tallaght Hospital with arrhythmia, rapid heart beat and now type 2 Diabetes I feel like a free man. Mind you, I have to go back tonight as there are more tests to take, and then they are going to shock me back to a normal heart beat. Still I’m free today and I have quite a story to tell about the 12 hours I spent in the Tallaght A&E and nice folks there. It looks like Damien has had his share of medical issues this season also, so I’m in good company. I’ll blog more about it when I finally get out of the hospital, I’m SO looking forward to that, as there is no internet there (even though I made a half hearted attempt to hack into their WiFi connections).
As we were talking about our cat, my wife mentioned; “What would we do without him”, and I replied “Everything else!” And this brought to mind an old saying that was common when I was in the Navy. “A bitchy sailor, is a happy sailor”. This is more or less what blogging is about, a place and a platform to bitch about things, and as I blog more about politicians and government, I could apply this meaningful cat dialog to my blogging. What would I do without bad politicians and rotten government, why, everything else. Governments could reform health care, cure cancer and fly to the Moon, Mars and the Stars. We could live in peace and have happier lives with our families. And I would have to find another subject to blog about. 😉
