The Truth in the Press.

A very good read at We Hold These Facts about the Washington Post and the Abramoff story.

But what is really at the heart, is Freedom of the Press and Corporate ownership of the ‘Truth’. We can only thank the freedom of the Blogsphere that does not let corporate and political ‘Spin’ destroy the Truth.

And like this gentleman, I hope that they will rise above the corporate corruption of the Truth. And defend a true Freedom of the Press in the form of honest reporting.

  1. Exactly, because as we all know, there is no spin or slander within the blogosphere, correct?

In this discussion, I agree with you, but it certainly works both ways. I find it hard to believe that one can suggest that certain press agencies don’t lean towards the left as well. This would be an absolute lie.

I’m not accusing you of anything here, because you haven’t been specific. But we must admit that there is much bias for and against certain people within the press.

I noticed that you said in another post that Al Gore didn’t get much media coverage for a speech he made. Well, that is because Gore is old news. He didn’t win the election. If he wants to get back into political office, I encourage him to run. If not, he shouldn’t expect to be in the spotlight, plain and simple.

President Bush is in the spotlight because he is the president. Clinton was in the spotlight just as much, although not really to such a negative degree.

As I have said before, I don’t agree with 100% of Bush policy, but only the negative things are usually ever reported. On the other hand, I did agree with many of the things that Bill Clinton did as well. I think it is important to focus on real issues, rather than keep campaigning a year or more after the elections. It’s time to move forward with the progression of ideas. To a patriot like myself, that is what is best for all Americans, not just Republicans vs. Democrats. It’s more important to look at the big picture.

If one agrees 100% with anyone, it only makes them a pet or a robot. America and it’s Constitution is based and founded on the ideology of individualism. It is important to remember that individualism, and what it means. It means that every individual has his/her own opinion, and the sharing and debate of ideas is what makes democracy work. If we polarize ourselves too far to one side, ideas will never be allowed to be challenged for alternative views. However, different does not always equal better, nor worse. With all ideas on the table, the American people cast their vote, and the majority wins. This is what individualism and democracy means to America.

As far as the press goes, they are protected under the First Amendment, to have the freedom to report the facts. They also have the freedom to say whatever they want. It is very dangerous for us to assume that the two cannot get mixed together as one. For instance, columns are opinions, yet they are very widely viewed as news. If opinion is not substantiated by true facts, we cannot call this news reporting.

The NY Times, and others have been guilty of this. Since the Times are the standard of the American Press, they have a huge responsibility to get the story straight. Failure to report a story is also the same.

There are many positive things, for instance, about the war in Iraq that do not ever get reported. To ignore these things, is no different than lying.

Remember what debate means. Let’s try to keep it a friendly debate.

I am agreeing with you that blogs are good. While they are not the news, they do offer an alternative perspective as well as a fresh outlook outside of monetary manipulation and a ‘corporate headlock’, so to speak.

    Your thoughts?
